The Eagle Rock Latin Jazz Band was formed in 2006 as a part of the ERHS stage show “La Loteria”. The group was so well received that it was kept alive as an independent ensemble. Since then, the group has performed at the Eagle Rock Music Festival, in joint concerts with the CSULA and Cal Arts Latin Jazz ensembles, and for many civic functions in Los Angeles. Student alumni of the group have since gone on to perform salsa music professionally and as members of local college ensembles.
In 2009, the ensemble was adopted by A World Fit For Kids, a non profit organization that works with LAUSD’s “Beyond The Bell” to sponsor after school programs for young people. These fine students (grades 7-12) continue to work throughout the year, bringing the gift of salsa music to Eagle Rock High’s ever-expanding music program.
